Ajanta cave paintings

Location: Ajanta is a series of rock-cut caves in the Sahyadri ranges (Western Ghats) on Waghora river near Aurangabad in Maharashtra.

Number of Caves: There are a total of 29 caves (all buddhist) of which 25 were used as Viharas or residential caves while 4 were used as Chaitya or prayer halls.

Time of Development

The caves were developed in the period between 200 B.C. to 650 A.D.

The Ajanta caves were inscribed by the Buddhist monks, under the patronage of the Vakataka kings – Harishena being a prominent one.

Reference of the Ajanta caves can be found in the travel accounts of Chinese Buddhist travellers Fa Hien and Hieun Tsang

Painting

🧠The figures in these caves were done using fresco painting.

🧠The outlines of the paintings were done in red colour. One of the striking features is the absence of blue colour in the paintings.

🧠The paintings are generally themed around Buddhism – the life of Buddha and Jataka stories.

अजंता गुफा चित्र

स्थान: अजंता महाराष्ट्र में औरंगाबाद के पास वाघोरा नदी पर सह्याद्री पर्वतमाला (पश्चिमी घाट) में रॉक-कट गुफाओं की एक श्रृंखला है।

गुफाओं की संख्या: यहां कुल 29 गुफाएं हैं (सभी बौद्ध) जिनमें से 25 का उपयोग विहार या आवासीय गुफाओं के रूप में किया गया था जबकि 4 का उपयोग चैत्य या प्रार्थना कक्ष के रूप में किया गया था।

विकास का समय

गुफाओं का विकास 200 ई.पू. के बीच हुआ था। से 650 ई.

अजंता की गुफाओं को वाकाटक राजाओं के संरक्षण में बौद्ध भिक्षुओं द्वारा उत्कीर्ण किया गया था – हरीशेन एक प्रमुख हैं।

अजंता की गुफाओं का संदर्भ चीनी बौद्ध यात्रियों फाह्यान और ह्वेन त्सांग के यात्रा वृतांत में पाया जा सकता है

🧠इन गुफाओं में आकृतियों को फ्रेस्को पेंटिंग का उपयोग करके बनाया गया था।

🧠चित्रों की रूपरेखा लाल रंग में की गई थी। आकर्षक विशेषताओं में से एक पेंटिंग्स में नीले रंग का अभाव है।

🧠पेंटिंग आम तौर पर बौद्ध धर्म – बुद्ध के जीवन और जातक कथाओं के इर्द-गिर्द होती है।
